Assignment

  • Explore Feminist Frequency and watch at least one video.
  • Share a link to the video and write a brief reaction/response to the video in our Facebook Group.
  • Download and familiarize yourself (including doing tutorials) with a video editing software of your choice. (I recommend Camtasia.)
  • Think about, begin planning, even start recording footage for your next assignment: a video criticism piece.
  • Be prepared to briefly present the type of video criticism you’re planning to produce in our next class.

  • Discuss sampling of podcast drafts.

  • Complete the first draft of your podcast, upload to Soundcloud, and share link in Facebook group.

Wednesday, March 29

  • Podcast drafting workshop. Bring your computer with Audacity, USB drive, or use online storage to bring your working draft of the podcast to the classroom. Bring headphones.

Assignment

  • Podcast due on Monday, April 3.
    • Revise and publish your final version of the podcast in Soundcloud.
    • Write a brief blog post that frames and attracts listeners to your podcast.
    • Embed or link to your podcast in your blog post.
    • Share podcast in our Facebook Group and on Twitter, using the #digitalmediacriticism hashtag.

  • Watch The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology (watch with free trial here).
  • Read Internet Activism.
  • Write your next blog post as a form of digital activism related to Puerto Rico and/or the UPR (blog post, listicle, series of memes, hashtag performance, etc) as informed by depiction analysis (Chapter 9) and ideological critique (The Pervert’s Guide), from the perspective of your topic, if possible. If you can’t fit it into your blog focus, make this an independent work, using Google Docs (here’s how to publish it). Share in our Facebook group before class on Monday, February 27.
