Week 3: La Feria del Libro and I ♥ E-Poetry Resources (Continued)

This week we’ll be developing the following resources:

Week 2: La Feria del Libro and I ♥ E-Poetry Resources

Okay, let’s get to work. This week features two projects: creating a site for La Feria del Libro and expanding upon established I ♥ E-Poetry resources as well as familiarizing yourselves with the site.

La Feria del Libro

The first order of business is to create accounts and familiarize yourselves with the administrative interfaces for our resources:

Weeks 9-10: Templates and Backlinks

For these two weeks, we need to:

  • Ian: develop and implement the page design we discussed in the meeting on all of the pages.
  • Cynthia: finish entering data on the missing pages
  • Both:
    • Visit all the I ♥ E-Poetry pages and link back to the resource pages.
    • Correct the page templates, which include:
      • Moving title and author link to caption on screen capture
      • Make the links open in new windows
      • Add the more tag after the first paragraph in each entry

Weeks 7-8: Resource Pages

Okay my esteemed interns, it’s time to develop some resources:.

You’re going to begin with the pages that you already created for the exhibitions, publications, collections, and websites and you’re going to describe them, add screenshots, provide information from the ELMCIP KB, links to the resources and a complete listing of the works covered and not covered in I <3 E-Poetry, including links to the entries. Information to cover:

  • title
  • year(s) of publication
  • publisher
  • editor(s)

Begin with the ones assigned to you and we’ll work out distributing the rest.

Week 6: Works Not Covered

When I started working on I ♥ E-Poetry, I was focused on poetry as a genre and therefore didn’t read many works of e-literature that fit other genres in the publications and exhibitions I covered. I have now expanded on the project’s focus to include all e-lit genres and have published a CFP (Call For Postings– a play on  the traditional meaning of CFP: Call for Papers) to direct guest and regular contributors to help me expand the project’s coverage of electronic literature.

So here’s what I need you to do:

  2. Create a page in I ♥ E-Poetry (direct link to page listing) and save as draft (don’t publish):
    1. Create two lists:
      1. Works Covered in I ♥ E-Poetry – list all works with links to I ♥ E-Poetry entry.
      2. Works Not Covered – List all works with links to original work.
    2. Format:
      1. Title” by Author (example “Taroko Gorge [2012 Remix]” by Nick Montfort)
      2. Make sure all the links open in a new window/tab.
    3. Suggestion for streamlining:
      1. Go to the anthology, exhibition, or venue
      2. Type in “Title” by Author in the Works Covered list
      3. Create link on title and search for the appropriate entry from the link menu.
      4. If the work is available, great, make the link and move on to the next work.
      5. If it isn’t, link to the original source and move “Title” by Author to the Not Covered list in the page.

Week 5: Image Download, Upload, and Metadata

The images in I ♥ E-Poetry are in multiple locations on the Web, which makes it vulnerable to changes in servers and server outages. They also contain no metadata, which makes them problematic for search engines and inaccessible to readers who are visually impaired or can only use a text-based browser.

So here’s what needs to be done:

  • Go to each of your assigned entries from last week’s task.
  • Download the image(s) to your hard drive by right clicking on it(them) and selecting “save as.”
  • Edit the entry and delete the image(s).
  • Upload to the gallery and insert each image in the same location as you found it.
  • While you’re inserting each image, center it, have it not link to anything, and let it be either original size (most are 150-200 pixels high) or medium size.
  • In the alternative text box, type in “screen captured image from [title] by [author(s)]”– I suggest cutting and pasting the title of the entry, which is written in that format.

You are assigned to the same entries as in Week 4.

 

Weeks 3 – 4: I ♥ E-Poetry Internal Link Correction

Now we need to correct all the incorrect links inside I ♥ E-Poetry entries.

  • I have created user accounts for all of you in the blog. Log in to the administrative back end.
  • Go to the links listed below to get a list of the entries, which you can then edit:
  • Here’s how to correct the links:
    • Click on the title to edit each entry.
    • See if there are any links to entries in I ♥ E-Poetry (links are usually on the titles of the e-poems).
    • Correct the link, preferably by choosing the correct one from within the WordPress entries (they’re searchable).
  • When you’ve completed your task, please remember to mark it as completed.

Week 3: ELMCIP Knowledge Base URL correction

Your mission is to edit the link to I ♥ E-Poetry entries from the ELMCIP Knowledge Base using the GDoc we created as a reference.

  • I’ve created ELMCIP Knowledge Base accounts for all of you. Log in.
  • Visit the same pages assigned to you in the previous task.
  • Edit the page, updating the link to the I ♥ E-Poetry entry with the correct one compiled in the GDoc.

While you’re at it, correct any inconsistencies you may have noticed.
